Commercial Farmers’ Information Day

RNRF Agronomist Leon Killian highlights desirable traits of soybean cultivars

Date: Wednesday 23 April 2008, at
Location: RNRF Soybean Cultivar Trial Site 1 – Addo, Eastern Cape

The event was an overwhelming success. Commercial Farmers, co-ops, EC farming organisations and leading Industry groups from across South Africa were in attendence.

Mr Patrys Lubbe – Managing Director, Agriocare, major sponsor

Guests were invited to view the Addo site of RNRF’s Nationwide Soybean Cultivar Trial, and were engaged in discussions over the potential and benefits of commercially farming Soybean in South Africa. The net result was a huge interest in cultivation of Soybean as both a primary crop and a rotational crop (as it replenishes nitrogen in soils) and the support of many individuals and groups.

Speeches were given by RNRF experts in Soybean cultivation, and by Mr. Ian Armstrong, Chairman of RNRF. Also, addresses by Mr. Antony Jarvie of Major Sponsor Pannar, Mr. Patrys Lübbe of Major Sponsor Agriocare, and Mr. Mervyn Ewels of Sponsor Link Seed were given throughout the day.

Emerging Farmers’ Information Day

This day was dedicated to engaging Emerging Farmers of South Africa, focussed mainly on historically disadvantaged farmers of the Eastern Cape. Around 50 people enjoyed the event with strong and positive feedback from high potential Emerging Farmers and Organisations.

As with the previous day, a speech was given by RNRF Chairman Mr. Ian Armstrong, with informative presentations by Mr. Antony Jarvie, Mr. Patrys Lübbe and Mr. Mervyn Ewels of Major Sponsors Pannar, Agriocare, and Sponsor Link Seed respectively. Interactive speeches and presentations were given by RNRF Soybean Experts followed by hands on discussions in the Addo RNRF Soybean Cultivar Trial.
